Flower Power at the Dallas Arboretum

| by Sally W. Dix

The Dallas Arboretum comes alive in the spring. The theme of this year's Dallas Blooms festival is Flower Power, a salute to the 60s. The 66-acre park offers spectacular arrays of flowers including 400,000 tulips, daffodils and hyacinth bulbs, 3,000 azaleas and thousands of other annuals and perennials. This delightful exhibit offers green lawns for lounging, flowerbeds in the shape of butterflies wings and a VW Bug and VW Bus covered in living plants. Bring your camera.

There's always something beautiful blooming at the Dallas Arboretum.  Stroll through our 66 acres of gardens and witness the transformation of spring into summer with thousands of petunias, zinnia, marigolds and more.

Join us for Afternoon Tea through May 31 in our newly-renovated DeGolyer Tea Room through May 31.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 214-515-6512.

April and May are blooming with great classes at the Dallas Arboretum.  We have something for everyone in adult education including fun hands-on programs.  Mother's Day is right around the corner, and what could be better than a day of learning in Dallas' most beautiful classroom!  Gift Certificates available.

Here are some great classes you won't want to miss!

Lone Star Greats: Tough Texas Plants

This class is a must for anyone who gardens in Texas.  Jimmy Turner, Director of Horticulture Research, will tell you which plants will do best in your North Texas garden based on the results from our Trial Garden research. Participants will then be able to attend the plant sale preview that evening before the sale opens to the general public.  Don't miss this opportunity to learn about and purchase plants that will make your garden the talk of the neighborhood: April 20th from 4pm - 5:30pm.

Organic Gardening Basics - May 5
Hardy Tropical Plants for North Texas - May 12

For a full calendar of classes and descriptions, or to register for classes, visit www.dallasarboretum.org or call 214-515-6512.

The Dallas Arboretum is supported, in part, by funds from the Parks & Recreation Department.
